Our audio trimmer online free is perfect for various audio editing needs:
Traditional audio editing software requires installation, takes up disk space, and often comes with a steep learning curve. Our online audio trimmer free offers several advantages:
To get professional results when you trim audio online free, follow these best practices:
Can I trim multiple audio files at once?
Currently, our online audio trimmer processes one file at a time for optimal performance. However, you can trim as many files as you need in succession without any limits.
What's the difference between trimming and cutting audio?
Trimming typically means removing portions from the beginning or end of an audio file, while cutting can refer to removing sections from anywhere. Our audio trimmer online free does both - you can select any portion to keep.
Does this work with other audio formats besides MP3?
Currently, our trim audio online tool supports MP3 files. For other formats, you can use our free audio converter to convert to MP3 first.
Is there a limit to how many times I can use the audio trimmer?
No! Our free audio trimmer has no usage limits. Trim as many MP3 files as you need, whenever you need.
Any trimmer will cut audio. The difference between an edit that sounds deliberate and one that clicks, thumps or clips a word in half is where you put the cut. Four rules cover almost every case.
For anything that has to loop or sit next to other music, the cut belongs on a downbeat, and you can work out exactly where that is from the tempo. One bar of 4/4 lasts 60 ÷ BPM × 4 seconds:
Set the start handle on a downbeat you can see in the waveform, then type an end time one bar multiple later in the time field rather than dragging. For dance routines and gym classes — where the count has to stay right across a whole playlist — this is the only approach that holds up: pick 8, 16 or 32 bars, never "about thirty seconds".
Worth knowing, because nobody says it: MP3 is lossy, so trimming one means decoding it and encoding it again, and that second encode is a second generation of loss. On one pass it is inaudible on speech and all but inaudible on music. On the fifth pass — trim, re-trim, trim again — it is not. So trim once, from the best-quality file you have, and keep the original.
It also explains a quirk you may have met in other tools: MP3 is stored in frames of 1,152 samples, which at 44.1 kHz is about 26 ms each. Tools that copy frames instead of re-encoding can only cut on a frame boundary, so your edit lands up to 26 ms away from where you put it. This trimmer re-encodes, so the cut is where you asked for it — at the cost of that one generation.
| What it's for | Length to aim for | Where to cut |
|---|---|---|
| Phone ringtone | 20–30 s | Start on the hook, not the intro — you only hear the first few seconds before answering |
| Notification / alert tone | 2–5 s | One recognisable phrase, fade the tail |
| Podcast intro | 5–10 s | Full bar count, ending on a downbeat so the voice can start clean |
| DJ drop or voice tag | 2–5 s | Tight in, 10 ms fade out, no dead air either side |
| Radio station ID | 3–10 s | Hard in on the first syllable; playout systems trim leading silence unpredictably |
| Short-form video (Reels, Shorts, TikTok) | 15–30 s | Start on the drop; the first second decides whether anyone stays |
| Music bed under a voiceover | Length of the script + 2 s | Cut on a bar line and loop it rather than stretching |
This trimmer takes MP3, up to 10 MB and five minutes, and does the whole job in the browser — nothing is uploaded. For a WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG or FLAC file, run it through the audio converter first, then trim the MP3 it gives you. If what you actually want is to split one long recording into several files rather than keep one section, the audio splitter is the right tool; to join the pieces back together afterwards, use the audio joiner.

The export keeps the sample rate and bitrate of your source file, so for any normal use the trimmed clip sounds like the original. The honest technical detail: MP3 is a lossy format, so trimming one means decoding it and encoding it again, and that second encode is a second generation. On one pass it is inaudible on speech and all but inaudible on music. What does degrade audibly is trimming the same file over and over — so trim once, start from the best-quality copy you have, and keep the original.
Not directly — this trimmer takes MP3, up to 10 MB and five minutes, because it does the whole job in your browser with nothing uploaded. Convert the file first with our free audio converter, then trim the MP3 it gives you. If you want to cut one long recording into several separate files rather than keep a single section, use the audio splitter instead.
Work it out from the tempo instead of dragging by eye. One bar of 4/4 lasts 60 ÷ BPM × 4: 2.0 s at 120 BPM, 1.875 s at 128 BPM, 2.4 s at 100 BPM. Put the start handle on a downbeat you can see in the waveform, then type an end time that is a whole number of bars later into the time field. For a dance routine or a gym class, pick 8, 16 or 32 bars rather than a round number of seconds — that is what keeps the count right across a whole playlist.
