In late October 2025 Udio announced a partnership with Universal Music Group and turned off downloads. Its help centre now states that downloading of audio, video and stems has been disabled. Users were given a single 48-hour window in November 2025 to save existing songs. Udio has since signed further deals (Warner, Merlin, Kobalt, Believe) and is building a licensed, in-app experience, but has not announced a return of downloads.
For jingles that settles it: a radio station, podcast or DJ needs a file to load into playout, a podcast editor or a DJ deck. A song that can only be played inside Udio cannot go on air.
Even when downloads worked, Udio made songs: it sings a prompt, with phrasing chosen by the model. Most radio imaging is spoken. A station ID or sweeper has to say the call letters and frequency clearly and land on a stinger, which is a different job.
